The Ann Children’s Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting adoptive families of children with special needs by helping bridge the financial gap for critical services and procedures that are otherwise not covered by insurance or other organizations.
We are seeking a Paid Communications & Social Media Intern to support brand awareness, storytelling, and outreach efforts. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, social media strategy, graphic design, event support, and administrative assistance under the direct guidance of our Director of Communications & Outreach, as well as the Founder and CEO. This role is ideal for a Communications, Marketing, and/or Digital Design Major seeking practical experience, portfolio development, and professional mentorship while making a meaningful impact.
Learning Objectives
- Develop professional communication skills by creating mission-driven content for social media, marketing materials, and outreach initiatives
- Gain hands-on experience in social media strategy, including content planning, scheduling, engagement tracking, and basic analytics
- Learn nonprofit brand management principles, including consistent messaging, storytelling, and audience engagement
- Strengthen technology and design skills through the creation of digital graphics and promotional materials using tools such as Canva or Adobe platforms
- Develop teamwork and professionalism competencies by collaborating with leadership and supporting cross-functional projects
- Gain exposure to nonprofit event coordination, including promotional support, preparation, and post-event communication
- Build organizational and administrative skills through light data entry, record management, and internal communications support
Intern Responsibilities
- Assist with creating and scheduling social media posts across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.)
- Support content development for campaigns, events, and awareness initiatives
- Assist with writing and mailing donor thank you letters and outreach materials
- Assist with graphic design and marketing materials as needed
- Provide support for event coordination and promotions
- Perform light administrative and data-entry tasks as assigned
- Participate in regular check-ins and feedback sessions with the internship supervisor
Required Qualifications
- Current FGCU student majoring in Communication or Digital Design (or closely related field)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with social media platforms
- Professionalism, reliability, and willingness to learn
- Ability to work independently while following guidance and feedback
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Interest in nonprofit work, advocacy, or community engagement
- Graphic design experience (Canva, Adobe tools, or similar)
- Interest in social media analytics, branding, or marketing strategy
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfort with light administrative or data-entry tasks
Working Hours
- Approximately 10 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic commitments.
- Hybrid in-office (Naples, FL) and remote work – flexible.
- Hours must be completed during the academic semester to meet internship credit requirements
Pay
- Paid internship (hourly rate commensurate with experience; $15–$18/hour)
