Job Title: Marketing & Public Relations Internship (Starting in Fall Semester)
Reports to: Marketing & Public Relations Director
Department: Marketing
Summary:
The marketing and public relations department is very robust and offers an opportunity for a student to learn and gain experience in a wide range of projects. The intern will assist with promoting events and tours to the public and members. Requires use of email, copy machine, phone, general Internet research, writing and editing skills. Requires good communication skills, must like working with people, be a team player, and be able to follow directions.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Post events and programs to public calendars (requires writing and editing)
- Maintain clippings binder with media coverage
- Assist with talking to the public at onsite events (handing out marketing materials and answering questions)
- Assist with familiarization tours for journalists and group tour agents (requires walking outdoors in hot weather)
- Take photos during onsite events and programs
- Prepare coupon reports
- Perform internet research
- Prepare donation packages
- Assist with media (TV reporters and journalists) visits
- Attend trade shows and community partner meetings
- May assist with answering journalist questions
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a student at an accredited four-year college or university with a degree emphasis in journalism, public relations or marketing
- Able to operate basic office equipment safely and efficiently
- Basic computer skills
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Internship requires student to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear
- The intern may occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds
- Will have contact with internal and external customers, vendors, outside agencies and the general public
- Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions, including wet or humid conditions and extreme heat
