Position Type: Part-Time
Schedule: 20 hours per week
Hours: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Thursday-Sunday (more hours may be available for special events as needed)
Position Summary
The Guest Relations Associate serves as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for museum visitors. This role is responsible for providing excellent guest service, managing admissions and gift shop sales, supporting daily museum operations, and assisting with light administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, able to work independently, and comfortable multitasking in a public-facing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Services
- Welcome and assist museum visitors in a courteous and professional manner
- Answer questions about exhibits, events, memberships, and museum policies
- Provide a positive and engaging visitor experience
- Work with and provide direction to Guest Relations volunteers
- Handle guest concerns or direct them to appropriate staff when needed
- Answer the phone and answer questions or take messages when possible
Admissions & Gift Shop Operations
- Process admission sales and memberships using the museum’s point-of-sale system
- Operate the gift shop, including sales transactions, restocking merchandise, and maintaining displays
- Balance cash drawer and follow daily cash-handling procedures
- Assist with inventory tracking and basic merchandising
Opening & Closing Duties
- Open and prepare museum spaces for daily operations
- Perform end-of-day closing procedures, including securing entrances, shutting down systems, AV has been turned on/off and ensuring public areas are tidy
- Monitor cleanliness and presentation of guest-facing areas throughout the shift
Administrative Support
- Perform light administrative duties such as filing, answering phones, inventory, responding to basic email inquiries, and data entry
- Assist with event preparation and other operational tasks as needed
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to admissions and sales
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays
- Academic knowledge of Holocaust/WW2 Preferred
- Previous customer service, retail, hospitality, or museum experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable handling cash and using computer systems/POS software
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities
- Dependable, punctual, and detail-oriented
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift light items as needed
